Both Democratic and Republicans will have party election races in the May 7 Primary in Scott County. The filing deadline to seek public office was noon this past Friday, Feb. 9.

Republican incumbent county commissioner from District 1 Randy Julian is facing two other GOP challengers: Lonnie Noble and Marvin Lynn Robinson.

Whoever wins the GOP nomination will face Democrat Donnie Richie in the fall.

Incumbent District 2 County Commissioner Mike Jones is facing a challenge for the Republican nomination from Adam M. Bomar. The winner of that contest will face Democrat Larry Blevins in the fall.

Six Democrats have filed for the three at-large county council posts: Jim Boswell, Shane Deaton, Keith Henderson, John C. Lizenby, Brandon L. Stagnolia, and Teresa Baker Vannarsdall,

Six Republicans filed for the at-large council seats: incumbent Lyndi Hughbanks, Justin Cheatham, John W. Hardin, James Richey, Brad Stotts, and Deborah Stroud-Hubbard will contest for the three GOP nominations

In other county elective offices incumbent Michelle Shelton filed to run for county clerk on the Republican ticket and she will be challenged in November by Democrat Stacey Broady Turner.

Incumbent GOP county councilman Jonathan L. White filed to run for county coroner and will face Bryton Richey in the Republican primary.

Republicans Stephanie Gabbard and Sarah M. Helton are seeking their party’s nomination for county recorder. The winner will meet Democrat Kristi Richie-Johnson in the November election.

Similarly, incumbent Democrat Missy Applegate will face opposition in the fall from Republican Ryan Gabbard,

Incumbent Republican county surveyor Mark A. Gardner filed to seek re-election.

In Jackson County three Republicans are seeking the District 2 County Commissioner’s seat: Bret Cunningham, Drew Storey, and Michael Lee Bobb.

Incumbent Republican Drew Markel filed to seek another tern as District 1 County Commissioner.

There will be a Republican Primary race for the three at-large county council seats. Incumbents John L. Nolting, Amanda Cunningham Lowery, and R. Brett Turner filed to run as did former Jackson County Auditor Roger D. Hurt and Lucas L. Hanner..

Incumbent Republican County Treasurer Kathy S. Hohenstreiter filed to seek another term as did Republican county surveyor Daniel Blann and Republican county coroner Paul Foster.

Jamie M. Pyle fled to run for county auditor on the Republican ticket.

In statehouse races, in House District 66, incumbent Republican Zach Payne faces a challenge from James E. (Jim) Baker for the GOP nod. Democrats Rick Cannon and Jennifer David are seeking their party’s nomination for Dist. 66.

In House District 69, incumbent Republican Jim Lucas faces a primary challenge from Brian Savilla. Trish Whitcomb is the lone Democrat to file District 69.

Six Republicans are vying to be their party’s candidate for Governor: Mike Braun, Brad Chambers, Suzanne Crouch, Eric Doden, Curtis Hill, and Jamie Reitenour. Jennifer G. McCormick and Tamie Dixon-Tatum are seeking the Democrat nomination for governor.

For Indiana’s 9th Congressional seat, incumbent Republican Erin Houchin faces a primary challenge from Hugh Doty while Democrats D. Liam Dorris and Timothy (Tim) Peck are seeking their party’s nod.

In the open US Senate race Jim Banks and John Rust are seeking the GOP nomination. Valerie McCray and Marc Carmichael are seeking the Democratic nod.
