Clearspring Baptist Church and Clearspring Cemetery Association is preparing for Memorial Day with first ever Roots Festival featuring a hog roast, live music and local vendors.

The festival is to raise money for the cemetery and to raise awareness for the food pantry the church holds. The festival will be from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Monday, May 29 on the grounds of the Clearspring Baptist Church. 3248 North Broadway, Norman.

Food, booths and a music stage will be at the festival with Six Scoops bringing their ice cream truck and giving out free scoops to the first 200 people who donate to the food pantry.

“The Clearspring area, like much of America, was impacted by the methamphetamine crisis,” said Amanda Cooper, Roots Festival event chair. “As a result, the town has become run down and lost its sense of community pride.”

Organizers of the Roots Festival, want to rebuild the community and encourage pride of home ownership within the town.

They are still looking for vendors to be at the festival, for those interested in having a booth set up for the event contact the Clearspring Cemetery Association on their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/clearspringcemetery.

Those who are setting up booths need to bring their own tables, power and other equipment they may need.

To get to the festival, take US 50 west from Brownstown, turn north on SR 135, then left onto SR 58. Turn south on Cooper Road, then west on Co. Rd 350 N, and immediately south on Broadway by the former Clearspring High School to the festival grounds.
