A mother and daughter were charged with felony possession methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and other drug offenses last Thursday, July 27, when a neighbor notified Scott County Sheriff’s deputies that women were “acting strange” and that several cars were seen coming and going most of the day at the residence.
Around 8:49 p.m. Deputy Zachary Brown went to the home at 2403 N US 31 south of Austin and spoke with Sally C. Stepp, 49, of Scottsburg who said she was visiting her mother, Lenora A. Barger, 68, of Austin.
Brown wrote in the probable cause affidavit that both Stepp and Barger’s behavior was erratic, could not sit still, and their pupils were constricted. “I know this behavior to be very common with someone who has used a stimulant,” reported Brown.
While talking with Barger, Brown said he saw she was wearing an ankle monitoring device. When asked Barger said she was on home incarceration through Scott County.
Court records show that she was sentenced on June 27 to 730 days home incarceration after pleading guilty for possessing methamphetamine.
The sheriff’s deputy notified Community Corrections officer Melissa Smith of the situation and Smith told Brown that Barger had missed an appointment with probation. Smith and Officer Rebecca Hollan later arrived at the Barger home and began a search of the residence as part of Barger’s probation terms.
During their search officers found methamphetamine weighing over 13 grams, a pill bottle with 83 Baclofen, three pills of Diclofenac, and marijuana on the toilet lid along with plastic baggies and cut straws, and a glass smoking pipe, according to the charging affidavit.
Both women were placed under arrest and transported to Scott County Jail. While being booked into the detention center, jail staff searched Barger’s purse and discovered a small bag which contained a white powdery substance.
Barger was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a legend drug, maintaining a common nuisance.
Because of her probation and home detention violation, the court last Friday revoked her probation and issued a warrant for her arrest requiring her to be held without bond.
Stepp was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of a legend drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, visiting a common nuisance.
Scott Circuit Court Magistrate Allison T. Frazier set her bond at $60,000.
