Scott County Purdue Extension Educator for Ag & Natural Resources, Tom Springstun, recently announced that he is taking registrations for the next local Purdue Extension Master Gardener (EMG) Training Class that will start in Scottsburg this August.
At least 15 persons need to enroll in order to conduct the class.
The plans are to offer the Purdue EMG Basic Training through 15 weekly in-person classes in Scottsburg this August thru December. Springstun said “Right now we are trying to determine the best day of the week (M-Th) and the best time of day (9AM-12PM, 1-4PM or 6-9PM) for the training for the majority of persons interested”.
The EMG training offers persons extensive in-depth knowledge of lawn, garden & landscape topics thru in-person classes where guest speakers present written info and pictures, and answer participants questions. Person’s must pass an open-book final exam with a 70% minimum passing score in order to be considered an EMG Intern, then complete 40 hours of volunteer work to become an EMG volunteer, and then an additional 12 hours of volunteer work and 6 hours educational training annually to remain in Active EMG status.
The proposed fee for the training is $190/person which includes the print version of the Purdue EMG Manual, and for an additional $25.00 participants will also receive the digital version of the manual on a searchable flash drive. If two people from the same household want to share a print version of the Purdue EMG Manual, the total cost will be a proposed $290.
