Storm Leaves Damage In Its Path
Straightline winds toppled a large pine tree onto a Ford Ranger at the Steven Barnes residence at 409 W. Main Street last Wednesday morning.
Several structures throughout the area sustained damage by high winds.
Weather folklore is that March is a lion and an lamb: if it comes in as a lion it will go out as a lamb and vice versa.
That may be of some comfort to those whose homes and property were damaged by the high winds and rain which roared into the area early Wednesday morning, March 1.
Several isolated buildings suffered from mild damage to total destruction in Crothersville and Vernon Township.
Crothersville schools were on a 2-hour delay as a result of the storm.
South of Crothersville trees were broken and uprooted causing traffic problems on US 31, I-65 & some county roads.
As bad as the damage was in the Crothersville area, power was out in Seymour for more than 24 hours as Duke energy crews were busy repairing electrical poles damaged by the wind and the results of a fire at an electrical substation.
Along with the high winds came a large amount of rain which resulted in low lying roadways in the area to become flooded and closed to traffic by road officials.
