Scott County Independent Order of Odd Fellows “IOOF” Lodge 555 and Ida Rebekah Lodge 333 recently planted a Red Maple tree in the County Courtyard. The tree was planted Monday, April 27, on the northeast corner of the Courtyard where two old and dangerous trees had been removed a few years ago.
The Odd Fellows and Rebekah’s plant a tree during the week of Arbor Day every year. Planting trees has by advocated by scientists for years due to the ability of trees to absorb carbon dioxide, store the carbon and release oxygen for human use. Man’s best environmental cleaners are trees; as long as air pollution continues-let us plant trees. Our “Living Legacy Program” motto is “Plant a tree for one who comes after me”.
The groups thanked the county commissioners for granting permission and expressed appreciation to County Extension Agent Tom Springstun for his advice and help in planting the tree.
