A Crothersville soldier killed in Viet Nam in 1966 will be honored during next weekend’s Crothersville Red, White & Blue Festival.
Howard ‘Howie’ Rothring Jr. was just 21 years old when he was killed by mortar fire on April 14, 1966 while guarding the American air base at Cu Chi in South Viet Nam.
The 1964 graduate of CHS had been in the Army just seven months before he was killed. He was the war’s only fatality from Crothersville.
Rothring is the brother of town attorney John Rothring of Uniontown.
A special memorial is planned during the Red, White & Blue Festival’s opening ceremony on Thursday, June 13.
