A Lexington, Indiana woman died after entering the water at Hardy Lake in northeastern Scott County in the early hours of Saturday, July 27, according to Indiana Conservation officers.
Authorities identified the victim as Nancy Burton, 47, of Lexington.
Shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday, Scott County Dispatch received a call of a female unresponsive in the water at Hardy Lake. Indiana Conservation Officers along with the Scott County Sheriff’s Department and Scott County EMS responded to the scene. The woman was transported by boat to shore, where First Aid and CPR were rendered, but efforts were unsuccessful, authorities said.
According to preliminary investigation by Indiana Conservation Officers, the victim, who was not wearing a lifejacket, had entered the water from a boat also occupied by her husband, Edward ‘Ronnie’ Burton, 58, of Lexington before becoming unresponsive.
Alcohol is believed to have been a factor, however, no foul play is suspected, police said.
An autopsy was performed Sunday morning and cause of death and toxicology are pending, officials said.
