Two Scott County men were arrested last Tuesday Sept. 19 in connection with a burglary reported earlier that morning in the 3200 block of North State Road 135 in the Freetown area of northwest Jackson County.
Steven Andrew White (left), 29, and Nathaniel Kane Napier (right), 28, both of Scottsburg, face charges of burglary and theft of firearms, according to Jackson County Sheriff Rick Meyer.
Meyer the investigation that started at 8:18 a.m. Tuesday when county Detectives Jesse Hutchinson, Clint Burcham and J.L. McElfresh responded to a residence on a report of a burglary.
The complainant, who was out of state in Tennessee at the time, called police saying she had video surveillance on her phone of the incident which shows two persons breaking into the home around 5 a.m., according to Jackson County Sheriff’s Department dispatch.
The suspects then took numerous guns and jewelry from the home and had more items stacked up, which they were possibly going to return and take, the sheriff said.
During the investigation, police learned the suspects were in Scott County, and Jackson County Chief Deputy Dustin Steward and Lt. Adam Nicholson retrieved some of the stolen property from a location in Austin. They then learned of the location of a second suspect, Meyer said.
Both men were arrested and booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown on Tuesday — Napier at 2:03 p.m. and White at 2:50 p.m. They continued to be held there without bond pending initial court appearances.
Last Thursday, deputies returned to Scott County and located some of the clothing White and Napier had been wearing along with a bag containing a gun and other stolen items, Myer reported.
Meyer said the investigation is ongoing and further arrests may be forthcoming.
