Detectives and Crime Scene Technicians with the Indiana State Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred just east of Scottsburg early last Wednesday morning.
According to ISP Sgt. Carey Huls, initial investigation reveals that around 1 a.m. Wednesday, Scott County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a shooting at an apartment located at 2929 E. SR 56 about a mile east of Scottsburg. Deputies learned that two male occupants of the apartment were involved in an argument, and one shot the other with a handgun during the dispute.
EMS personnel immediately transported the injured subject to Scott County Memorial Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Authorities identified the deceased as 49-year-old Edward Milam Calton of Scottsburg.
Deputies requested assistance, and ISP detectives, troopers, and crime scene technicians responded to the scene.
Investigators are continuing the investigation; however, no arrests have been made at this time. Detectives do not believe there is any current danger to the public, and all involved individuals have been identified.
This investigation is ongoing, and detectives will provide all information to the Scott County Prosecutor for review and any possible charges.
