Indiana State Police troopers arrested a 43-year-old Washington County man last Wednesday, Feb. 4, on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges related to the reported sexual abuse of a minor.

Jacob L. Hayes, 43, of the 11000 block of East Smith Road near the Scott County line in eastern Gibson Township of Washington County, was taken into custody without incident early Wednesday morning at his residence. Troopers from the ISP Sellersburg Post, assisted by Washington County Sheriff’s Department deputies, served an arrest warrant issued by the Washington County Circuit Court.

The investigation began last month after an Indiana Department of Child Services family case manager reported allegations of inappropriate sexual contact to ISP Detective Travis Baker.

Detective Baker and DCS personnel interviewed the victim and submitted all information to the Washington County Prosecutor.

The prosecutor’s office charged Hayes with:

•Two counts of felony child molesting, a Level 1 felony

•13 counts of felony sexual misconduct with a minor

•Two counts of felony dissemination of matter harmful to minors

•Two misdemeanor counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Hayes was booked in to the Washington County Jail at 8:28 a.m. On Thursday, Feb. 5 Washington Circuit Court Judge Larry W. Medlock set Hayes bond at $300,000 full cash.
