Indiana State Police have charged a 54-year-old Batesburg, South Carolina man with stealing nearly $1 million from his grandmother who is residing in a Madison assisted living center.

Eric Dyer is facing felony charges of theft, money laundering, corrupt business influence neglect of a dependent and a misdemeanor charge of exploitation of an endangered adult in Jefferson Circuit Court.
Dyer was arrested Thursday morning at a Madison Hotel and booked into Jefferson County Jail.
The investigation by ISP detectives began in May 2024 when a financial institution reported suspicious transactions involving the accounts of the elderly Jefferson County woman.
During the investigation, police learned that in 2021, Eric Dyer was named power of attorney/legal guardian over his grandmother, who resided in an assisted living center in Jefferson County.
A review of bank records indicated that between 2022 and 2024, Dyer withdrew nearly $1 million from his grandmother’s bank accounts for his personal use. Investigators also learned that Dyer was behind in paying the grandmother’s assisted living facility monthly care.
Indiana State Police Detectives were assisted by the Jefferson County Prosecutor’s Office and the Indiana Adult Protective Services.
Dyer remains incarcerated in Jefferson County Jail on a $250,000 full cash only bond.
