The recently opened Indiana Bank & Trust Company located on the south side of Austin, along U.S. 31, was robbed around 1:50 Monday. The robbery was committed by a white male between 5’8” and 5’11” weighing approximately 160 lbs. In the photographs released, the suspect was wearing a dark blue or black colored hooded jacket, light colored blue jeans, along with sun glasses, white gloves and a knit winter hat.
The suspect waited in the lobby of the bank for customers to leave, before approaching a bank employee and verbally demanding money. The robber indicated he had a handgun, but did not display one. He left the bank parking lot and headed north on U.S. 31, driving a dark gray van with possibly an Indiana ‘In God We Trust’ plate, bearing the numbers 8201.
A female was spotted in the van, accompanying the suspect, as it pulled away from the bank. The female was seen wearing a knit hat that appeared to be flat on top. The Indiana State Police Sellersburg Post put out a dispatch a short time after the robbery for officers to be on the lookout.
Detectives have interviewed many witnesses from around the bank, in the hopes of obtaining a better description of the suspects. No one at the bank was injured during the robbery. The suspects left with an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency.
This case is being investigated by the Indiana State Police along with Austin Police Department. Interviews of possible witnesses are on-going at this time.
