Two central Indiana residents were found with methamphetamine, pills, and marijuana following a traffic stop on I-65 in Scott County on Tuesday night, Aug. 27.
Jailed were the driver of the vehicle Jamey L. Hatfield, 33, of Trafalgar charged with felony counts of possession of methamphetamine, possession of legend drug and maintaining a common nuisance along with misdemeanors possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The passenger in her vehicle, Justin Price, 33, of Indianapolis is facing a felony charge of possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor counts of possession of marijuana and visiting a common nuisance.
Scott County Sheriff’s detective Donovan McCutcheon reported he was traveling southbound on I-65 when a passenger vehicle was fast approaching from the rear in the passing lane. When the vehicle got closer it quickly pulled into the right hand lane and immediately slowed.
Slowing his vehicle the deputy pulled in behind the formerly speeding auto.
According to McCutcheon, the vehicle was weaving crossing the centerline and the right side fog line several times. “I could tell the occupants inside the vehicle were making furtive movements,” the officer wrote in the court probable cause affidavit.
After pulling the vehicle over, McCutcheon said he could smell the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
Asked if there was anything illegal inside the car, Hatfield said, “I have a little bit of marijuana” and showed the officer a plastic bag containing green leafy cannabis.
Searching the vehicle police found a purse containing a straw and rolled up dollar bill with remnants of methamphetamine as well as pills determined to be escitalopram and aripirazole, both legend drugs.
In the passenger door officers located a small gray round container containing a total of 2.6 grams of methamphetamine next to where Price was sitting.
According to the probable cause, Hatfield told authorities that the meth and pills in the purse were hers. Price denied any knowledge of the meth in the passenger door. “He stated he only know about the cooler full of alcohol in the back seat,” the court document read.
Hatfield later told authorities that she got the meth from Price. Police also later learned that Price was on probation in Marion County for previous drug charges. Hatfield told the deputies that they were heading to Kentucky.
Both were incarcerated in Scott County Jail.
On Thursday, Scott Circuit Court Judge Jason Mount set Price’s bond at $65,000. Hatfield’s bond was set at $35,000.
