A 37-year old former Scott County woman is facing 13 felony charges of child molesting, battery, strangulation and intimidation against three young girls.
Bobbie Jo Spencer, 37, of Rockport, was arrested by Spencer County Sheriff’s Deputies on a Scott Circuit Court warrant last Thursday, Sept. 14, after Detective Jacklyn Shofner of the Scott County Sheriff’s Office concluded a lengthy investigation where Spencer was alleged to have sexually molested and battered several children.
The investigation began about three years ago, in August 2019, when one of the victims told a caseworker with Scott County Department of Child Services that a family member’s stepmother had molested her.
According to the probable cause affidavit, the molestations occurred between 2009-2013 when the victims were 3-6 years old. Spencer was acting as a caregiver to the young girls when she allegedly touched their breasts and groped them.
When the young girls resisted or cried out, Spencer allegedly beat, choked, stuffed clothing in their mouth, and in one instance attempted to drowned one victim while giving her a bath, according to the court document. Spencer threatened the young girls with physical harm if they told anyone about the molestation, the probable cause read.
Detective Shofner was made aware of the allegations made against Spencer and after locating her in Spencer County Indiana, she was able to interview her and corroborate the allegations made against her.
The investigation was presented to the Scott County Prosecutors Office which obtained a court warrant on Sept. 2.
Spencer is facing 13 charges including multiple counts of child molesting, intimidation, strangulation, battery, dissemination of matter harmful to minors, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
She is incarcerated in Scott County Jail. Scott Circuit Court Judge Jason Mount she her bond at $100,000 full cash only.
