1st Graders Share Recipes For Their Favorite Thanksgiving Dish
In an annual Thanksgiving tradition, the Times presents first graders’ recipes for their favorite dish for tomorrow’s holiday meal. We thank teachers from Crothersville Karra Hercamp & Ashley Spicer and Austin first grade teachers Tonya Wass, Shelby Mays, Michelle Smith, and Maddie DiBlasi for their help with this writing assignment.
Turkey Hadley
Put it in the oven for 1 minute. Put some seasoning on it. Add pepper.
Turkey Danni
I put something on it with a brush and it is liquidity. I cook it for about 40 minutes. Then take it out and start eating it.
Turkey Harper
You have a turkey from the store. Put it in the oven for a really long time. Then you take it out and eat fresh turkey.
Chicken Aleena
My dad puts it on his grill for maybe like 20 minutes. Then he puts all the sauce on the chicken. Then he puts it back on the grill and then takes it off and puts a thermometer in it. Use the thermometer that is for food. Then he is done.
Chicken Nuggets Paul
Get them out of the fridge. Put them in the oven for like 30 hours. Take them out. My mom puts ketchup on the little nuggets. I will eat them all.
Turkey Kayleigh
You get a turkey. Then put it in the oven and then get it
out. Then decorate it.
Mashed Potatoes Maisy
Go to the store. Get mashed potato stuff. Put milk in a bucket with the potatoes. Put salt and pepper on them. Cook for 30 minutes.
Chicken Wings Bryce
I fix them by putting them in the oven for 20 min. Then put some ranch on them. Then eat it.
Broccoli Bryson
You need to make the broccoli first. Just call mommy and ask her how to do it.

You need peanut butter and jelly and bread. Eat it!
Turkey Bella
Get a turkey at the market. Cook it for 60 minutes. You can eat it.

My dad sometimes puts it in the oven for 4 minutes. Take it out and lay it on the table. Then we wait for everyone else to come over. You can have bacon too.

Get the pepperoni and put it on the pizza. Cook it for 10 seconds. Eat it!
Mashed Potatoes Dalayna
Peel off the skin and mash the potatoes. My mom puts salt on the them while they are in the pot getting mashed. Put them on a plate. Then just eat it.

I go huntin with my papaw and he shoots it. He peels the
skin off. It was last year’s turkey.

Mommy doesn’t tell me. I don’t watch every time. I know you put eggs in it and milk.
Chicken with Salt Otis Densford
Put it on the kitchen stove and let it heat up. I don’t know how that works. Like 5 minutes or 10 minutes. Then eat it.

First I have to kill a turkey in the woods. Then she cuts the turkey open and puts Ramen Noodles in it. Add salt and pepper, then she puts a Jalapeno on it.

Mommy takes some lettuce and puts it on top of the burrito. Then she puts some ranch on it. She also puts a little of cookies on it.

She got it out and she put it into a oven and we wait till it beeps. Then she got it back out and put it on a plate on the table. Then she makes the other stuff.

She doesn’t really make it; but she gets it at Wal-mart. She usually goes by herself to get cake. We eat it after supper.

I think she buys it at Wal-mart. I don’t know. I don’t watch her cook it.
Potatoes and Gravy Emma Luedeman
My grandma makes potatoes mashed up and gravy and some meat, corn too. I don’t know. She makes it before we get there. So I don’t see. Sometimes she cooks green beans.
Two Cakes Mixed Together/Strawberry & Chocolate Joseph Lykins
She makes it with strawberries and chocolate. You know like the candy chocolate. She puts a lot of each of those. She bakes it for 5 minutes. Then um, she puts it back in the oven and lets it cool down. Then we eat it.
Mac & Cheese Nataleigh Vojkufka
My dad puts water in the cup bowls. He mixes it up and puts it in the microwave. When its done he takes it out. It’s a little hot.
Apple Pie Madison West
Mom goes to Wal-mart and then she umm, buys a can of apples. Then she comes and she makes the crust. She puts the crust in a pan and puts the apples in it. She closes the hole that she made in the crust. She puts it in the oven. If it ain’t done in 10 minutes she puts it in for 20. Then she takes it out and we eat it.

So they get it from the store and then they put salt on it. They put it in the oven. They give me lemonade.

They got to kill the pig. Then you cook it. They cook it for two minutes.

So we buy it at the store and then we put the mac-n-cheese in a pot with water. We mix it and then we put it in a bowl to let it sit for a little bit. And then we put the little bag with the cheese on it and mix it and put some pepper on it.

You grow the pumpkins. I think you have to get a bowl. You smash the pumpkins and then you put it inside the oven. You cook it for 10 minutes.

I like mashed potatoes. That’s like the only thing I like at Thanksgiving. I don’t like vegetables and turkey. So you peel the potatoes then they mash them and then they mix them. That’s how you make mashed potatoes. One time my mom made them with the skins on. I didn’t like them with the skins!

Chocolate Covered Strawberries and Yogurt Covered Strawberries Aliannah
You just put strawberries in a pan and then you pour yogurt or strawberries all over it, whichever one you want to make. Cook it so the yogurt or chocolate melts and set in the freezer. Then you have dessert!

Buying some vegetables and put them around the turkey. Take off the things inside of the stomach, they are so bad to eat. Then, you get some juice and a big pointy thing and you put it in the turkey and press it down. And then you put it in the oven. It is super hot. Then you get it out and you eat it!

You use a pig and cook its’ meat. You cut it up where it looks like ham, or you can buy it from the store in circles.

First you need some chocolate and then you stir for ten minutes. You freeze the chocolate onto something. Then you break the chocolate and make an egg. Tape the
chocolate back to together.

You buy the meat from the store and you cook it. You put salad around the turkey. You cut it up and then we put it on a plate.

You cook it in the oven with seasoning on it. The oven is 59 degrees. You cook it for 65 minutes.
Chocolate Covered Strawberries Maddie
First, we get chocolate and then we melt it. We put it on the strawberries and wait for the strawberries to dry with chocolate on them.

You make it with cheese and sauce.
