A fire at a northern Vernon Township barn kept Crothersville-Vernon Township firefighters occupied for nearly six hours Saturday.
Local firefighters were called to the Marion Brumett residence on County Road 125 South north of Uniontown at 6:49 p.m. when a family member noticed smoke coming from a barn at the real of the property.
The local department battled the blaze which is believed to have been burning for some time before being noticed.
“Apparently no one was at home at the time,” said local Fire Chief Charles Densford.
Densford estimated the damage to the barn and loss of equipment between $80,000-$90,000.
The cause of the fire is unknown but the local department’s investigation is continuing, the chief said.
He said the local department, which received assistance from Jackson-Washington VFD, was on the scene until 12:52 a.m. Sunday.
