The Crothersville-Vernon Township Volunteer Fire Department received word last week that they have been awarded a $3,826 grant from the Indiana Homeland Security Foundation to purchase additional personal protection gear.
According to Fire Chief Lynn Howard, the money will be used to purchase new boots for all firefighters.
The Seymour Fire Department received $4,000 in funding for four multigas detectors to assist the firefighters in responding to emergencies involving gas leaks like the one in Brownstown earlier this month.
Emergency Services organizations could receive up to $4,000 to help fund additional training or to purchase new equipment.
The IHS Foundation began its grant program in 1999. Funding for the program is generated by the sale of the Secure Indiana license plates. Grants this year totaled $374,000.
