The Crothersville FFA Chapter is gearing up for the 26th annual Toy & Food Drive. The original drive in 1988 was first implemented to meet the needs of children in the community who may not receive Christmas presents during the holiday season. Since then drive has expanded to serve 96 families, including the elderly, shut-ins, and those suffering from an illness and cannot work.
“With the expanded need in the community, the chapter is seeking financial assistance from local civic organizations, businesses, churches, and individuals to help supplement the exorbitant cost of supplying non-perishable food that is delivered to the families,” said FFA Advisor Linda Begley. “Chapter members work a variety of events to help offset the cost of the food products.”
Most recently the local FFA chapter hosted an annual craft show with all proceeds going towards the drive. They will also host a wall decorating contest for Crothersville Jr./Sr. High School students on December 16, and have asked the elementary students to participate in a canned food collection competition between classes.
Names of prospective families/individuals within Vernon Township who are in need of food this year are being collected. Neighbors, friends, and concerned individuals can submit those names of Vernon Township residents to the High School at 793-2051 during school hours or they can be mailed to Crothersville FFA Chapter, 109 North Preston Street, Crothersville, IN, c/o Linda Begley.
This year the toy & food distribution will be held on Saturday, Dec. 20, beginning at 9 a.m Donations to the effort are very much in need. Financial contributions will be accepted until Wednesday, Dec. 17.
