Late Monday night, Sept. 20, Deputy Charlie Morgan of the Scott County Sheriff’s Department along with K9 Karma stopped a blue Pontiac G6 for a registration violation at the corner of Bond Street and U.S. 31 in Austin.
During the traffic stop Morgan deployed K9 Karma to do a free air sniff while walking around the vehicle. Karma, on duty for just over a week, alerted on the car and heroin was located in the console area of the vehicle.
As a result of the stop the occupants of the vehicle, Anna Brelynn Smith, 25, of Bank Street in Austin and Michael W. Barger, 48, of East Street in Crothersville were both arrested for the charges of possession of a narcotic drug and maintaining a common nuisance.
Each was incarcerated at the Scott County Jail being held on $15,000 bond.
