A woman from Kentucky and a man from Ohio have been charged in Scott Circuit Court with dealing in a narcotic drug.
On Monday, Aug. 21, Scott County Sheriff’s Deputy Detective Donovan McCutcheon received a citizen tip that a couple was allegedly attempting to deal in controlled substances to Scott County citizens through social media.
After contacting the alleged dealers, Detective McCutcheon set up a controlled purchase of Oxycodone pills from an alleged dealer, later identified as Wanda A. Hicks, 45, of Falmouth, Kentucky. Hicks was arrested immediately following the purchase of the pills, along with Richard D. Daniel, 52, of Fairfield, Ohio, who had driven Hicks to Scott County, facilitating the alleged drug transaction. The pair were arrested a little before 5 p.m.
Hicks and Daniel were charged in Scott Circuit Court with dealing in a narcotic drug, a level 3 felony.
Judge Jason Mount set their bond at $100,000 full cash each. Hicks and Daniel remain incarcerated in Scott County Jail.
Later in the evening on August 21, Deputy Kyle West was patrolling in northern Scott County when he conducted a stop of a motorist for a traffic violation.
The driver Aleta Lynn Elings, 38, of Seymour, was found to be driving on a suspended license. Additionally, Elings was wanted on two warrants issued through Scott County for previous drug offenses.
During the deputy’s on-scene investigation, Elings was additionally arrested for possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a common nuisance, possession of paraphernalia, and driving while suspended.
Circuit Court Magistrate Alison T. Frazier set her bond at $15,000. Elings remains incarcerated in Scott County Jail.
“I have said it over and over…if you come to Scott County to deal drugs, get ready to spend time in the Scott County Jail,” said Scott County Sheriff Jerry Goodin. “My job as the Sheriff is to ensure our deputies have every tool at their disposal and that they feel appreciated for what they do. I am extremely proud of all of them.”
