The Fort Vallonia Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) has a long history of honoring those who serve in the military. They are now offering Jackson County residents an opportunity to recognize and honor veterans and active military in a very special manner. To date, Seymour and Crothersville have approved the program to display military banners on their street light poles. Deadline for applications has been extended to April 30.
Applications are available at: Seymour VFW, Seymour American Legion, Crothersville VFW, Seymour Jackson County Public Library, and on the Ft. Vallonia DAR facebook page and Smalltown Strong.
Fort Vallonia DAR Service to Veterans Chair, Ruth Ann Rebber, is excited about the banner project. “This is a wonderful way to honor and recognize those who served or are still serving our country in the military. Last year Seymour showcased 25 banners from Memorial Day week end through Veterans’ Day, November 10th and nine veterans were honored in Crothersville.”
The 2024 banners will again hang from Memorial Day thru Veteran’s Day.
To be eligible, an individual must have served, been honorably discharged, or currently serving in the United States Armed Forces and have a valid connection to Jackson County, past or present. The individual may be living, deceased, Gold Star, POW or MIA. Each banner will include the name, branch of service and conflict, if any. This program honors all veterans, whether in time of conflict or peace.
Applications must be fully completed and submitted with payment of $150 and a high-quality photo in uniform. An 8×10 photo is desired. Photos may be black and white or color. Low quality photos and photos less than 5×7 will not be accepted. Photos will be returned.
