This year’s Crothersville Lions Club Red, White & Blue Festival will provide a lot of wholesome, family centered activities for everyone.
The 34th annual salute to our veterans and our nation’s flag will be held Thursday through Saturday, June 11-13, on the Crothersville Community School grounds.
Norma England, a secretary at Crothersville Schools for five decades will serve as the parade marshal for Saturday’s parade, Bridges said.
Each day will be celebrated with a theme, according to Sherry Bridges, festival director.
Thursday will be Veterans Night “and we ask everyone to wear read in support of our veterans and those servicing,” said Bridges.
Friday is CHS Class Reunion Night. “Make sure you CHS grads stop by the information booth for your name tag and your graduation year,” said Bridges.
Saturday is designated as Kids Day. “And we encourage kids of all ages to take part in the fun activities during the day,” she added.
Fiesta Rides will kick off the festival on Wednesday night with Bracelet Night.
On Thursday the Crothersville Athletic Boosters will sponsor the traditional Baby Contest. Registration begins at 4:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center. Judging begins at 5 p.m. Winners will be announced from the stage at 6:15 p.m.
The festival princess coronation, sponsored by the Phi Beta Psi Sorority, will take place at 6 p.m.
The festival’s emotion-stirring patriotic ceremonies will feature members of the Crothersville VFW Post 1083 accompanied by the Ladies and Men’s Auxiliary at 6:30 p.m.
Crothersville’s Most Talented will be center stage at 7 p.m. “The talent show is changed somewhat from pervious years,” said Bridges. “Everyone is invited to share their talent from musical to comical. The winners will be determined by the people’s choice by voting in person or by text messaging.”
The Cake Walk, sponsored by the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, will take place on Preston Street at 7:30 p.m.
The Colwells Gospel Group will close out Thursday evening’s entertainment.
On Friday, Gettin’ Froggy Karaoke will kick off the entertainment at 4:30 p.m. Crothersville native Mark Johnson will be encouraging folks to step and sing their best.
At 6 p.m., Country Kickers Line Dancing will entertaining followed at 7 p.m. with the Crothersville FFA Pedal Tractor Pull. The VFW Ladies Auxiliary will be holding another Cake Walk at 7 p.m.
State entertainment will start at 7 p.m. with Twilight Entertainment and Light Show keeping with the class reunion theme. Throughout the evening, decade music will be played with each year recognized and each decade highlighted with a historical reading. “Make plans to reunite & reminisce old times at CHS.
Kids Day on Saturday will kick off at 6:30 a.m. with the FFA serving breakfast.
At 8:30 a.m. the CHS Class of 2010 will sponsor a 5K run/walk. Participants will begin at the flagpole in front of the school. The Pet & People Walk will step off at 9:30 a.m. in front of town hall.
The 3-on-3 Basketball tourney will be held in the Girls’ Gym. Participants should enter through the north doors. Registration is at 9 a.m. Drawing for the tournament will be at 10 with play beginning immediately after.
On Saturday, all booths open at 9 a.m.
Kids Saturday will begin at 10 a.m. with games & demonstrations continuing until 2 p.m. Kids games will take place at the old First Baptist Church parking lot; demonstrations will be held in front of the festival stage,
Registration for the Corn Hole Tourney, sponsored by Tri-County Conservation Club, will begin at 10 a.m. The tourney will take place in the Christian Church parking lot beginning at 11 a.m.
VFW Post 1083 Men’s Auxiliary will hold a Horseshoe Tournament with registration beginning at 10:30 a.m. with the first pitch beginning at 11 a.m. The tournament will be held across Preston Street from the high school gym.
Parade registration begins at noon on East Street. The 34th festival parade will begin at 4 p.m.
The festival Dog Show will begin at 6 p.m.
In front of the stage at 6:30 p.m., the Crothersville Nazarene Youth “Stix” will perform.
Southern Comfort, a crowd pleaser for the last few years, will close out the festival with rock & country music.
The Antique Farm Machinery demonstrations will return for the 3-day event along Howard & Preston Streets.
The 78th Frazier Highlander Re-Enactment Group will be setting up camp during the festival in the grassy area around the elementary flagpole.
As in past years, Scott Lodge #120 F&AM will be providing a community service of photo & fingerprinting children. Parents are encouraged to visit their booth and take advantage of this useful information.
Once again the aroma of Firehouse Fish, World Famous FFA Porkburgers, Taco-in-a-Bag, Home Made Ice Cream, Lemon Shake-ups, Elephant Ears and Giant Tenderloin sandwiches will tempt the palate of festival goers.
“We encourage the community to bring their lawn chairs and enjoy the events of the festival,” said Bridges.
At 8:45 p.m., the drawings from the booth raffles will be announced from the stage. Winners will be able to take their prizes home.
Handicap parking will be in the school Administration Building parking lot at the south end of Preston Street. “The festival asks that you leave your pets at home unless you are entering them in a contest,” said Bridges. “Also, bicycles are not to be ridden on festival grounds.”
“We have just a few blocks of time available and expect those to be filled well before the festival gets underway,” said the festival chairman. “We have added a lot of new events and we’re still fine tuning a few others.”
