Crothersville Chief of Police Matt Browning was suspended 30 days without pay at the conclusion of last Tuesday’s monthly town council meeting.

The agenda item for Personnel was added to the council’s monthly business at the start of the March 3 meeting.

While the council voted 5-0 to suspend the town’s top law enforcement officer they offered little comment citing the “pending investigation.”

Local elected officials declined to comment on what type of investigation was on-going.

An executive session was held prior to the start of the council’s March 3 meeting to discuss personnel. Executive sessions are closed to the public and the media.

That discussion resulted in the council voting unanimously to suspend the police chief to look further into allegations raised during the closed door session.

The council appointed assistant chief Jonathan Tabor as acting police chief.
