In two separate incidents last week Crothersville Police Officers made two arrests for possession of methamphetamine.

Robert Earl Knight

On Saturday afternoon, Aug. 2, CPD office Derrick Minton pulled over a black Nissan Rogue for speeding on US 31. While obtaining license, registration and proof of insurance from the driver, Robert Earl Knight, 52, of the 1300 block of York Road in Austin, Officer Zach Elliott arrived with his K-9 partner Bora.

The dog did a free air sniff around the exterior of the vehicle and alerted officers that there were drugs in the vehicle.

Searching the vehicle officers located a clear plastic baggie containing an off-white crystal substance that tested positive for methamphetamine. The baggie contained 4.2 grams of the drug, officers reported in the probable cause affidavit.

Knight was booked into Jackson County Jail at 2:39 p.m. and charged by Jackson County Prosecutor Lynsey Fleetwood with felony possession of methamphetamine with a prior dealing conviction. He was released from custody at 5:53 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 5.

Rayven Wells

On Sunday, Aug. 3 around 5:45 p.m. CPS officer Samuel Hughes was southbound on I-65 north of Uniontown following a gray Honda Civic with no license plate. According to the probable cause affidavit, the vehicle slowed down to about 45 mph on the interstate and the officer reported a part from the vehicle came off and into the roadway.

He pulled the vehicle over and the driver was identified as Rayvan Danyel Mae Wells, 39, of Madison.

CPS Officer Elliott arrived with his K-9 Bora and did a free air sniff around the vehicle. The dog alerted officers to the presence of a drug.

Searching the vehicle officers located a white container with a mirror containing a residue that tested positive for methamphetamine. Officers also located Narcan, baggies, torches, spoons and a tie kit.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Wells admitted to being a meth user saying she was arrested in July for possession of the drug. However, she told officers that the white container did not belong to her and that she found it along the side of the road.

Wells was booked into Jackson County jail at 7:28 p.m. and now faces a felony charge of possession of methamphetamine and a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. She remains in custody.
