The Clothes Cottage in Crothersville is in the process of moving into the Old First Baptist Church at the corner of Joward and Jackson Streets. Manager Albert Stormes said it is a great opportunity to provide better services for the community with more space and a bigger room to process the donations that come in.
“In our old location donations would overrun us due to lack of space,” Stormes added.
The Cottage is operated by the First Baptist Church and proceeds go to help buy food for the Food Pantry that serves the needs of the local community.
“Our move will also help save on expenses so that we will have more funds to support the pantry,” Stormes said. Volunteers are also a key in helping smoothly run the facility. According to Stormes, the Cottage currently has nine volunteers from four different churches in the area and the Leaving the 99 Ministry.
In addition to regular sales, the Cottage also helps support the Ministries Homeless Mission, as well as families in need; whether recovering from a house fire, or assisting families in financial crisis.
Local businesses like; Beauty from Ashes Tattoo have donated funds to help support families. Stormes said, “We have also been blessed with new items, such as clothing from some area retailers, so we now have a mix of new and gently used items.
The Cottage is normally open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 3 to 5 p.m, and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“We are open during the transition period, but we plan on a big Grand Opening once the move is complete,” Stormes said,.
