A ribbon cutting of the new shelter house at Countryside Park was held Saturday afternoon. The Crothersville Parks Board named the shelter house after Doris Kovener, a long time financial benefactor and volunteer in the community.

The 92-year-old philanthropist has tirelessly worked to enhance our community, lending her unwavering support to countless initiatives that enrich the lives of our residents, said Crothersville Parks Board Member Steve Plasse. “Her dedication to fostering youth development through her presence at local sporting events and her commitment to improving shared spaces like this park exemplify her selfless spirit. This shelter house stands as a testament to her enduring impact and a place where her legacy of community and connection will inspire generations to come.”

Among her philanthropic efforts include: Cub Scout Den Mother, Red Cross Blood Donor, Jackson County Community Concerts serving as Secretary/Treasurer, Jackson county Mental Health Association Board Member, Crothersville Red White & Blue founding committee member for over 40 years, Indiana Farm Bureau ice cream booth at the Jackson County Fair.

Her financial contributions have helped to fund the new shelter house, as well as a new roof at the park ball field concession stand, and pollinator garden at the west side park.

Family & friends gather as Doris Kovener prepares to cut the ribbon at the Countryside Park Shelter house named in her honor.
