After first allowing a motion to provide a $5,000 retention bonus to die for lack of a second, the council approved amending the town’s salary ordinance giving local police officers a $5,000 raise next year.

After councilman Jamy Greathouse’s motion for a $5,000 retention bonus died for lack of a second, the council then unanimously approved changing the recently passed town salary ordinance to give local law enforcement a $5,000 salary hike in 2024.

Police officers will now be paid within a salary range of $48,000 to $68,000 per year.

In other spending requests, Councilman Chad Wilson made a motion to spend a total of $8,000 to have a scoreboard donated by Cerrowire installed at the ballfield at Countryside Park west of Crothersville. The expenditure will be equally split between the town’s Park Equipment and Contribution appropriations.

The council unanimously approved purchasing a Crothersville Athletics Department ad for $175.

The council unanimously approved a new wastewater customer deposit of $75 for all new customers connecting to the town’s sanitary sewer system. The deposit is to insure payment of final month’s sewer bills.

Once the final sewer bill at the location is paid in full with no outstanding balance the deposit will be returned.

A complete copy of the ordinance is found on page 6 of this week’s Times.

The council presented the October Community Award to Missi Clouse manager at the Crothersville Subway.
