The Crothersville Town Council last Tuesday appointed Brent Turner to be interim chief of the town’s police department.
He replaces Richard Hanlin as chief who resigned to accept a deputy marshal position with the Spencer Police Department in Owen County.
Turner, 39, has been with the Crothersville force since 2012. He was a reserve officer for a year and a half before becoming full time.
The council met in executive session then went into a special meeting where the council voted 4-1 to appoint Turner. Councilman Chad Wilson cast the ‘no’ vote.
Turner will be paid $18 per hour.
He will remain interim chief until January 2017, when the council makes various appointments, including police chief.
The department now has Turner and two other full-time officers. But one of them soon will be heading to the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and won’t be able to be on patrol in the town. There are two reserve officers who can help cover shifts.
