The Scott County Commissioners held a third and final reading for a proposed stop sign at the intersection of Slab and Cutshall Road when they met on Wednesday, Aug. 3.
Commissioner Randy Julian said that he didn’t get any more signatures for the petition that he started but had people talk to him about being for the stop sign. He commented that the issues with the line of sight are not a permanent solution to the problems at the intersection.
“Stop signs work all over the United States, everywhere and in this county,” said Julian.
But Commissioner John Lizenby said that he spoke to people on the stop sign and got a different message than what Julian did.
Commissioner President Mike Jones said he got the list of the residents who live on the properties that have trees and shrubs blocking the sight of the road. He added that he would like to see that being addressed before installing a stop sign, since the stop sign is not a “cure all”.
Both Jones and Lizenby want to look into other options that can be done before agreeing to approve a stop sign at the intersection.
Lizenby said that in the future that the stop sign might be an option if there wasn’t any other option.
The commissioners voted 2-1 that the stop sign will not be put at the intersection of Slab and Cutshall Road.
