After an anonymous tip from a resident, joint investigation by Scott county Sheriff’s deputies, Scottsburg Police and the Scott County Probation Department led to the arrest of three people on drug charges.
On Thursday, July 28, authorities from those departments went on a residence in the 3800 block of W. State Road 56, Scottsburg to conduct a probation check. When they arrived and spoke with the occupants, various drugs, paraphernalia, and evidence of drug sales were observed, according to Sheriff Jerry Goodin.
Located at the residence were approximately 2.5 pounds of marijuana, digital scales, and other drug paraphernalia used in the distribution of controlled substances, he said.
Joseph Ray Lamaster, 26 of Scottsburg was charged with possession of marijuana and maintaining a common nuisance.
Sean Michael Browning, 29, of Scottsburg was charged with visiting a common nuisance and false informing.
Melissa Leshy Crick, 28 of Charlestown was charged with visiting a common nuisance. Additionally, Crick was wanted on a warrant issued out of Floyd County which was served by officers at the scene. All three were incarcerated in the Scott County Jail.
“These arrests stem from a citizen providing a tip that suspected criminal activity was occurring at the State Road 56 address,” said the sheriff. “A report of heavy vehicle traffic to and from the residence was concerning, along with periodic disturbances in the neighborhood which led officers to the eventual arrests of those involved.”
The officers involved in this investigation and subsequent arrests were Scott County Sheriff’s Deputies Johnney Coomer, Paul Clute, Jessica Dickey, and Joe Johnson, Scottsburg City Police Officers Ryen Ware, Jordan Bowles, Greg Green and Steve Herald, and Scott Pool of the Scott County Probation Department.
