A Meadow Fritillary drinks nectar from the bloom of a purple coneflower (echinacea) during last week’s heat wave.
Both flower and butterfly are native to Indiana with the butterfly active from April through September. Their larval hosts are wild violets commonly seen blooming in the spring here in southern Indiana.
