Thanks to local area businesses, fireworks will be returning to close out this year’s Crothersville Red, White & Blue Festival, according to festival director Sherry Bridges.
“Several area businesses and industries have stepped up to underwrite to cost of the fireworks show,” said Bridges.
Cost of the fireworks is being underwritten by Rumpke, Regal Industries, The Peoples Bank, Aisin Drivetrain, Aisin Chemical Indiana, John Jones Auto Group, and Bob Poynter Chrysler, Ram, Dodge, Jeep, Hyundai.
The festival climax will be produced by Zambelli Fireworks, the same company that produces, Thunder Over Louisvile, she said. A community countdown will start the fireworks show at 10 p.m.
The area of the high school track and Bard Street Park will be cordoned off for fireworks and safety personnel only. Bard Street along the park will be closed from 9 to 11 p.m. during the fireworks.
The two preferred viewing areas will be the elementary parking lot and East Street, she said.
More details of planned events during the festival have been announced.
Done in conjunction with the traditional Baby Contest on Thursday night, June 12, will be the Little Mr. & Miss Red White & Blue for ages 5 -7. Entry fee is $10, and entrants must be dressed in patriotic colors. They will be judged on poise, confidence and will be asked a few simple questions, Bridges said. The top boy and girl will be crowned on the festival stage at 6:15 Thursday evening. Registration begins at 4 p.m. with judging at 4:30.
Area bakers wanting to enter the cakes and pie contest can deliver their entry and register in the CHS gym lobby from 10- 11a.m. on Saturday, June 14. Categories for the cakes are layer, sheet, decorated and your specialty. For the pies: fruit, cream, your specialty and cobblers.
For those who enjoy photography, a photo contest will be held Saturday. Photos can be registered from 9 to 11 a.m. in the gym lobby. Categories are nature, family, animals, and life in Vernon Township.
The Jimmy Stewart Memorial 3/3 Basketball Tournament is returning for another great year of basketball during the upcoming Crothersville Red, White & Blue Festival.
The event is named in honor of the Crothersville native and long-time local basketball coach Jimmy Stewart who passed away in February 2013.
This year’s tournament will take place inside the Crothersville Tigers Gymnasium on Saturday, June 14, beginning at 8 a.m.
There is a $50 entry fee for a four man roster. The first, second, and third place teams will receive a T-shirt. In addition to the t-shirt the first place team will also receive a $200 cash prize. Full Court Press Apparel will provide t-shirts for the basketball tournament and is selling Red, White, and Blue t-shirts for this year’s festival.
