Eighteen parcels of property with back taxes being owed sold at drastically discounted prices during the first ever tax certificate sale held in Jackson County last Thursday, April 26.
The properties had gone through at least two previous tax sales and found no interested buyer. The County Commissioners ordered a tax certificate sale with opening bids of $200. In all the sale of 18 properties added $13,300 to county coffers and found buyers and investors gaining bargains.
However, many of the properties have derelict homes and buildings on them prompting the new owners to either raze or repair the structures.
“The sale went very smoothly and all available parcels that weren’t redeemed prior were sold,” said County Treasurer Kathy Hohenstreiter.
