The City of Austin Sanitation Department is improving the process of how residential trash is collected. Beginning Monday, Nov. 10, city workers will begin utilizing the new fully automated collection service truck to collect your trash. The truck will be equipped with a cab controlled hydraulic arm that will pick up and dump the 96 gallon container.
The free trash container will be delivered to residences beginning Nov. 1.
“On your scheduled collection day, your new container should be placed within three feet of the roadway and free of any obstruction such as parked vehicles, utility poles, overhead lines, mailboxes, etc.,” said local officials.
Containers should be placed for pick up no later than 7 a.m. on your scheduled collection day and no sooner than 6 p.m. the evening before. At this time, residents’ trash collection day will remain the same. More detailed information will be forthcoming as we labor through this process, said city organizers.
“This new process is necessary to be able to improve the quality of services we offer our citizens. Our goal is to collect your trash in the most efficient, cost effective, and environmentally friendly method as possible,” said Mayor Roger Hawkins. “By switching to a fully automated system, all of this will be achievable.”
