The City of Austin is seeking to annex a little over 306 acres on the city’s south side, according to a legal notice in this week’s Crothersville Times. The property was recently acquired by the Austin Redevelopment Commission from Wanda Melton of Seymour for $1.4 million.
Mrs. Melton began the process of voluntary annexation last year; the Austin RDC is completing that petition to be brought into the city limits.
The property is bordered by York Road on the north, I-65 on the west and the Indiana-Louisville Railroad on the east and goes south to the Jennings-Vienna Township Line.
The property is about 60% wooded and 40% agricultural.
A public hearing on the proposed annexation has been scheduled by the city council for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 8, according to the legal notice.
At the public hearing on the proposed annexation, the public can appear and testify as to the proposed annexation.
A copy of the Petition for Annexation and a copy of the proposed Annexation Ordinance are available for review at the office of Clerk-Treasurer at Austin City Hall.
