The City of Austin is offering six days of no cost trash disposal. The purpose is to help Austin residents get rid of unwanted household items that would not normally be picked up for free during regular trash pickup routes, said Melissa Turner of the Mayor’s office.
The location to dispose of these items will be at the Street/Sanitation Department located at the end of South 5th Street off of York Road. “This free opportunity is only available to City of Austin residents. No contractors will be permitted,” emphasized Turner.
The six free days to dispose will be Thursday, Friday, and Saturday June 1st, 2nd, and 3rd and Thursday, Friday, and Saturday June 8th, 9th, and 10th.
Hours to dispose will be 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.
There will be a list of unaccepted items posted at the Street/Sanitation Department or residents may call the Mayor’s office at 812-794-6646 Option 1 with any questions, she said.
Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this no cost disposal opportunity, and anyone who is elderly and/or disabled may contact the Mayor’s office to schedule a pick up for any unwanted items they are not able to take to the Street/Sanitation Department. “Scheduled pickups will only be for the elderly or disabled who have no means of transportation to get their unwanted items delivered,” said Turner.
