The City of Austin Parks Board announced at their meeting last Wednesday, October 19, that they received funding on a $900,000 Grant through the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

“This is a 50/50 match with half of the funding coming from the Redevelopment Commission, the City of Austin, and the Jennings Township Trustee,” said Parks Board President J.D. Buchanan.

The $900,000 Grant will help to fund some major upgrades to the existing Broadway Park, he said.  Some of the upgrades will include a splash park, disc golf, land acquisition, skate park, new playground equipment that will be ADA accessible, tennis/pickle ball courts, a wildlife nature trail, new directional & entry signage, and upgrading and adding solar lighting.  The current playground and restrooms will also receive upgrades.

He said the project will begin with a ground breaking ceremony in the spring of next year with hopes of completion by June 2024.

Buchanan offered a special thanks to the Parks Board, the Township Trustee and Advisory Board, the City of Austin, and the Redevelopment Commission for partnering to make the funding match possible.
