Frank Ray Driggers, 54, of Austin was convicted of dealing methamphetamine and domestic battery and has been sentenced to eight years for his offenses, Scott County Prosecutor Chris Owens said last week. He will serve the first four of those years in prison and will have four (4) years of probation upon his release. Driggers were sentenced last Thursday before Scott Circuit Court Judge Jason Mount.
In August 2020, officers from the Scott County Sheriff’s Department, using a confidential informant, purchased methamphetamine off Driggers at a residence on Wilber Avenue. After the drug transaction, a report was submitted to the prosecutor’s office and charges were filed in September of last year.
Also in August of 2020, officers from the Austin Police Department responded to a report of domestic violence at this same residence on Wilber Avenue, Owens said. Driggers was charged with domestic battery for his actions that day.
The Prosecutor’s Office was able to secure convictions for both the drug dealing and for the domestic battery, Owens said.
“Our office is committed to protecting the people of Scott County and this protection includes sending people to prison who harm our community members,” said Owens. “Whether a defendant hurts others by the illegal sale of drugs or by their physical actions, we are committed to seeing that justice be done and that defendants are held accountable”
He acknowledged the Austin Police Department and the Scott County Sheriff’s Office for their community police work that led to the charges and convictions.
Deputy Prosecutor Mark Kiesler handled the prosecution for Scott County.
