Jackson, Scott, and Washington County schools recently received more than $488,000 for safety upgrades through the state’s Secured School Safety Grant Program supported by area lawmakers.

The funding is part of the state legislature’s investment in school safety this year, which totaled $27 million in state matching grants across 494 schools statewide. 

Area schools receiving grants include:

JACKSON COUNTY

•Brownstown Central Community School Corp., $92,500

•Crothersville Community Schools, $40,468

•Immanuel Lutheran School (Seymour), $10,284

•Medora Community School Corp., $18,404

•Seymour Community Schools, $92,500

•Zion Lutheran Church and School, $32,375

SCOTT COUNTY

•Scott County School District 1, $37,657

WASHINGON COUNTY

•East Washington School Corporation, $64,750

•Salem Community School Corporation, $52,892

•West Washington School Corporation, $46,250.

Awarded funds can be used for a wide range of safety needs like support for resource officers, equipment and technology, active event warning systems, threat assessments and student-parent support service programs.
