Two cities and three county’s in the area were awarded a share of more than $200 million in Community Crossings matching grants for local road and bridge projects by the Indiana Department of Transportation last week. A total of 245 Indiana cities, towns, and counties received grants.
Seymour was awarded $1.5 million, Jackson County received, $1,487,424; Scott County, $1,401,839; Salem $193,595 and Washington County $1.5 million.
Communities submitted applications for funding during a competitive call for projects in January. Funding for Community Crossings comes from the state’s local road and bridge matching grant fund. Community Crossings has provided more than $2 billion for local road improvement projects since its inception in 2016.
State legislators identified long-term funding for Community Crossings as part of House Enrolled Act 1002, passed in 2017.
