Amy Huffman Oliver, a Brown County attorney and school board member, has announced that she is running for the Indiana State House of Representatives seat in District 62 as a Democrat in November 2026. District 62 covers all of Brown County, and parts of Monroe and Pershing, Salt Creek and Owen Townships in Jackson Counties.

A native of Brown County, Oliver and her husband, Jim Oliver, returned to Brown County 28 years ago to be close to Oliver’s parents, Jane and Stu Huffman, and raise their two sons, Abe, 25,  and John, 22.

As a public interest attorney for over 30 years, Oliver is a passionate advocate on behalf of crime victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. She’s served the public as a Deputy Prosecutor in domestic violence courts in both Monroe and Marion Counties, as the Legal Director and law enforcement trainer for Turning Point Domestic Violence Services, as an Administrative Law Judge, and a Deputy Attorney General.

“I’ve spent my entire personal and professional life in public service and as a volunteer helping my fellow Hoosiers succeed,” Oliver said. “My mission is to listen to voters and to make positive change on behalf of the citizens in my district.”

“I will fight to fully fund our public schools, to ensure health care is both affordable and accessible for every Hoosier, and to curb excessive utility rate increases that are hurting struggling families,” Oliver said.

The public is invited to a meet & greet in Jackson County on Tuesday, Sept. 30, from 4-6 p.m. at the Community Center in Freetown.
