While property tax bills in Jackson County may not be sent out until later this month, online Jackson County residents can get an estimate of what their 2009 property tax bill will be by using a website site calculate provided by the Department of Local Government Finance (DLGF).
This tool allows taxpayers to enter their property’s assessed value, taxing district and possible deductions to see tax bill estimates for bills due in 2009.
Assessed values can be found on last year’s property tax statement receipt of can be obtained by calling the Jackson County Assessor’s office at 358-2111.
Taxpayers can access the tool from the Department’s Web site at http://www.in.gov/dlgf/2587.htm.
“The estimates provided by this tool are projections that taxpayers can use to determine how legislation passed last year, like the circuit breaker caps, will affect them,” Commissioner Tim Rushenberg said.
The website link came after the approval of Jackson County’s 2009 budget and certification of tax rates and levies on September 1.
The estimates provided by this tool are projections only and should not be taken as a statement of true tax liability, which is determined by the county.
A copy of the Jackson County budget and the DLGF analysis also will be available online at http://www.in.gov/dlgf/2531.htm.
