Crothersville’s Eunice Lacey, Jeff Rider A Part Of Torch Relay; Singer-Songwriter Joe Persinger To Debut ‘Train Town’
The Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay will wind its way through Jackson County tomorrow (Sept. 15), starting with a ceremony at 9:30 a.m. at the courthouse in Brownstown with the torch lighting at 10 a.m.
Two Crothersville area residents will be among those taking part in the torch relay across the county. Eunice Lacey and Jeff Rider were selected earlier this year to represent this area in the torch relay.
The torch will travel from Brownstown to Seymour, where Mayor Craig Luedeman will present a proclamation at One Chamber Square about 10:45 a.m.
The “Bicentennial Experience,” the state’s mobile Indiana museum, will be located near One Chamber Square from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. The self-contained mobile unit will make stops in many of the cities on the torch relay route, covering over 3,200 miles.
The Bicentennial Experience contains six different exhibit areas entitled “Indiana Treasures”, “Indiana Leads”, “Indiana Grows”, “Indiana Innovates”, “Indiana Inspires”, and “Indiana Unites.”
Mark Newman, executive director of the Indiana Office of Tourism Development, said, “Through interactive tools, this exhibit flows seamlessly from start to finish to paint a beautiful portrait of Indiana. I hope people walk away from it feeling proud to be a Hoosier.”

The mobile museum includes a small stage, on which Jackson County singer-songwriter Joe Persinger will perform from 11:30-12:30 many traditional folk songs as well as his new composition, “Train Town,” about the early days of Seymour.
“The city is privileged to have been chosen to host the Bicentennial Experience, and I hope all county residents who are able to do so will visit its unique exhibits during its brief four-hour stay,” he said.
