Crothersville and Vernon township residents over the age of 60 may qualify for a no cost monthly food package.
The Crothersville Senior Center is participating in a Commododity Supplemental Food Program for older adults over age 60, according to senior center director Sue Walther.
“Each monthly package contains approximately 40 pounds of food, which includes high protein items, grains, vegetables, juices and shelf stable milk,” she said. Powdered milk is included every other month.
In order to qualify you must be age 60 or older, live in Jackson County and meet the following income guideline: 1 person household monthly income of $1,211 or under; 2 persons $1,640; 3 persons $2,069. For each additional person in your household add $429.00.
To enroll in the program call the Senior Center at 793-2523 Monday – Friday between 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and talk with Walther to set up a time to come to the Center to fill out an application.
Bring with you proof of age and address: driver’s license, State ID, or birth certificate and proof of household income: Social Security letter, pension, pay stub or bank statement. Eligibility is based on gross household income. Be sure to bring documentation that will show the gross income for all members of the household, she said.
