Residents of Crothersville and Vernon Township will experience some changes when they vote in the May 8 primary election.
Voters in Vernon North precinct will continue to vote at Professional Heating and Cooling on US Highway 31 north of the US 31 & SR 250 junction.
Voters in the Vernon South precinct will continue to vote at the Crothersville-Vernon Township VFD station at 200 Moore Street.
A change will be in store for voters in the Crothersville precinct who will vote now at a new location: First Baptist Church.
The changes in precincts were proposed by the Jackson County Election Board and approve earlier this month by the Jackson County Commissioners.
One change in the local precinct maps was also approved. Voters in the east of town that was annexed several years ago were inside the town limits but had to vote in the Vernon South precinct because while the town council approves annexation, the commissions approve precinct boundaries.
That was changed at the recent commissioners’ meeting.
About 10 voters in town who formerly voted at the fire station (Vernon South) will now vote at the Baptist Church, according to county election clerk Carolyn Hurt.
There will be something on the primary ballot local voters won’t see in May: School Board races.
The Indiana Legislature moved all elective school board posts from a May primary to the general election in November. Reportedly, the thinking was that there is a greater turnout for the general election than for primaries.
