Everyone who enjoys birds is invited to “Bird Jackson County” this Saturday, Feb. 25. Special activities will take place at Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge and Starve Hollow Recreation Area to celebrate Sandhill cranes and other migrant visitors. Visitor Centers at both areas will be open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and staff will be on hand to give directions to areas where people may view Sandhill cranes and possibly Bald eagles.
At Starve Hollow bird crafts for children will be going on all day Saturday at the Visitor Center. There will also be talks on Sandhill cranes at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
At Muscatatuck NWR there will be special bird exhibits and free information on landscaping for birds. Children are invited to make “duck art” drawings from 10- 4 pm that will be entered in the Junior Duck Stamp Art Contest. Every child that makes a drawing will receive a small prize. At noon at Muscatatuck there will be a talk on cranes and handouts on cranes will be available.
Bird Jackson County is a partnership event between the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, and the Jackson County Visitor Bureau.
