A Tampico based trucking firm has announced pans to invested over $2 million to establish a grain hauling and handling facility north of Crothersville.
Steve Wischmeier of Wischmeier Trucking on State Road 39 in nearby Tampico plans to construct grain bins, loading and off loading equipment to aid area farmers getting their crops to market, according to Jim Plump of Jackson County Industrial Development Corporation.
Plumps said Wischmeier plans to build the facility on about 40 acres owned by Scott and Phil Teipen at the intersection of US 31 & County Road 400 S (Retreat Road).
The Jackson County Council approved more than $2 million in abatements last Wednesday night for a grain elevator project to be known as Tampico Grain.
Plump said the developers plan to spend $1.225 million for logistics and equipment and another $829,424 for real estate improvements.
The developers also plan to retain two present employees of Tampico Grain and add two additional employees.
The council approved both requests for a 10-year period.
Plump said construction is expected to begin later this spring when weather permits.
