Crothersville FFA Members Morgan Muncy, Dylan Brasher and Cody Defibaugh build and wrap some of the 40 fruit baskets delivered last Saturday during the FFA Toy & Food Drive.
It took over four hours last Saturday and 50 volunteers to deliver 5.659 tons of food to 89 families and 40 fruit baskets to others in the Crothersville community during the 23rd FFA Toy & Food Drive, according to Crothersville FFA Advisor Linda Maxie.
The Crothersville FFA members began after school on Friday, December 16, and worked until almost midnight sorting and packaging the food boxes. Then, on Saturday morning, December 17, with the help of the Crothersville-Vernon Township Volunteer Fire Department, the boxes of food and toys were distributed throughout the community.
FFA member Kaitlyn Hoevener, a junior at CHS, said that she can’t recall not participating in the Toy & Food Drive. She has been helping ever since her father, Marty, has been a volunteer fireman.
“I love to see the smiles on the kids’ faces as we make our deliveries,” she said.
Freshman Jacoby Gillis, a new FFA member, said, “I just can’t believe all that we have collected. This was so exciting to be able to participate this year.”
Maxie said that although it wasn’t a record breaking year and despite the slowed economy, churches, businesses, VFW, and local individuals were able to contribute to the cause and “We were still able to make a huge impact on the families need this Christmas.”
