City of Scottsburg sanitation residents have announced the Free Friday program at the Scottsburg Transfer Station, offering eligible residents the opportunity to dispose of items at no charge. 

Free Friday is available on the first Friday of each month from the hours of 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Transfer Station located on South 4th Street. All material/waste dumped at the Transfer Station must meet the city’s accepted items list. The sanitation staff reserve the right to reject any load that contains prohibited materials or exceeds program limitations.

Proof of residency will be required at the time of drop-off.

Each household is permitted one load per Free Friday. Residents are limited to the length of a pickup truck or 8ft trailer. Additional loads will be subject to standard Transfer Station fees. All residents must unload their materials/waste themselves.

Accepted Items

•General household trash

•Furniture (e.g., couches, chairs, tables, mattresses)

•Non-construction bulk items

•Small household appliances (must be free of refrigerants)

•Bagged garbage and loose debris must placed in manageable containers

•Carpet (4ft sections)

•Paint cans with dried paint

•Drained Dishwashers, Washers/Dryers, furnaces, mowers, hot water heaters

•Tires (must be cut into quarters or side walls cut out)

Items NOT Accepted

•Construction or demolition materials (e.g., lumber, drywall, shingles, concrete)

•Microwaves

•Gas Tanks

•Chemicals

•Wet Paint

•Unknown liquids

•Rocks or concrete materials

•Steel Drums / Burn Barrels

•Asbestos material items

•Electronics: TVs, computers/copiers

•Any unit containing freon: AC units, freezers, refrigerator
